Dhoni's ₹100 crore defamation case: Ex-IPS officer pushes back

Entertainment

Retired IPS officer G Sampath Kumar is pushing back against a Madras High Court order appointing an advocate commissioner to record MS Dhoni's evidence in a ₹100 crore defamation case.
Dhoni filed the suit back in 2014, after Kumar and several media outlets allegedly linked him to IPL betting and match-fixing—claims Dhoni has strongly denied.

Kumar's arguments and court's stance

Kumar's earlier attempt to get the case dismissed was rejected by the court, which found no substance in his plea.
He's now arguing that celebrities like Dhoni shouldn't get special legal treatment, but the judges stood firm and even asked Kumar's lawyer to withdraw some "highly offensive" remarks about the judiciary.
The next hearing is set for November 4, 2025.
