'Dhurandhar' becomes Ranveer's first 'A' rated film
What's the story
Ranveer Singh's upcoming action entertainer, Dhurandhar, has reportedly been given an "A" certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). This makes it Singh's first adult-rated film in his 15-year career. The film has a runtime of 214 minutes (three hours and 34 minutes), making it the longest Bollywood movie in nearly two decades, since Jodhaa Akbar (2008), per Bollywood Hungama.
Censorship changes
CBFC's modifications for 'Dhurandhar'
The makers of Dhurandhar were instructed to add a voiceover for the Hindi disclaimer, which resulted in an extended duration. Anti-drug and anti-smoking stings were added in scenes featuring substance abuse. Violent visuals at the start and in the second half were altered as per CBFC's request. A minister's character name was "suitably changed," and a cuss word was muted during censoring.
Film's clarification
'Dhurandhar' not based on Major Mohit Sharma's life: CBFC
The CBFC has clarified that Dhurandhar is a "work of fiction" and not based on the life of Ashoka Chakra and Sena Medal awardee Major Mohit Sharma. This comes after concerns were raised by Sharma's family over the film allegedly replicating key events from his military career. The censor board also stated there was no need to send the movie to Indian Army officials before its release.
