'Dhurandhar' piracy: Ranveer's film reportedly breaks records in Pakistan

Entertainment

Ranveer Singh's latest, Dhurandhar, is making headlines for all the wrong reasons—it's reportedly smashed piracy records in Pakistan after being banned there and in parts of the Gulf.
Despite the ban, the movie was illegally downloaded over 2 million times within just a couple of weeks of release on December 5.

How did it get pirated so much?

Dhurandhar's leaks outpaced previous record-holders like Raees and 2.0, spreading fast through torrents, Telegram channels, underground streams, and VPNs.
The Dark Web even got involved, with servers routed via Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Malaysia to help distribute pirated copies.

What's the damage?

The film industry is feeling this one—piracy losses for Dhurandhar overseas are pegged at ₹50-70 crore.
The ban and widespread illegal sharing hit hard despite ongoing efforts to fight piracy.

Local backlash in Pakistan

Sindh's information minister wasn't happy about how Lyari was shown in the film and announced a new local movie called Mera Lyari coming January 2026 to offer their own perspective.
