'Don't let someone control you with money': Reese Witherspoon's advice

Entertainment

Reese Witherspoon just dropped some real-talk financial advice on the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast.
Sharing wisdom from her mom, she said, "Don't ever let somebody control you with money," Witherspoon said. "If someone says, 'I'll take care of it, I'll take care of you, I'll handle this...' that person could leave. That person could hurt you. You always keep your job."

Why is this so important to her?

Witherspoon explained that seeing her mom and grandmother struggle financially shaped her views.
She stressed, "You always keep your job. Your job is your life insurance," highlighting how crucial it is to have your own income—especially for women.

Her top tip: steer clear of debt

She also urged listeners to avoid debt whenever possible: "Do everything you can to not get into debt," she said. "Pay off those credit cards, and don't spend money like it's yours, because it's not yours, girlfriend."

She's all about women owning their success

Witherspoon has always championed women's financial independence and wants young women—including her daughter—to be proud of making their own money.
For her, true freedom starts with being in charge of your finances.
