Eega creators accuse Lovely team of copyright infringement
The team behind SS Rajamouli's 2012 film Eega has sent a copyright notice to Malayalam movie Lovely, saying the film copied their iconic housefly character.
Eega's creators argue they put a lot of work into designing their VFX fly and believe any lookalike without permission breaks copyright rules.
How can anyone claim all houseflies are off-limits, Nair asks
Lovely director Dileesh Nair pushed back, asking how anyone could claim all houseflies in movies are off-limits.
He pointed out that their own fly design was announced two years before release and looks nothing like Eega's version.
Nair also questioned why notice arrived right before 'Lovely's OTT debut
Nair also questioned why the notice arrived right before Lovely's OTT debut, hinting it might be an attempt to slow down his film.
He added there were no royalty demands since Lovely had only a tiny theatrical run.
