Film actor Rajiv Kapoor passes away at 58
Bollywood actor Rajiv Kapoor, the youngest brother of late actor Rishi Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 58 due to a heart attack. As per reports, Randhir rushed his brother to Inlaks Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival. The facility was closest to their residence in Chembur, Mumbai. May his soul rest in peace.
Rajiv's sister-in-law and Rishi's wife, actor Neetu Kapoor has confirmed the news of his passing. She shared a picture of him on Instagram and wrote, "RIP (sic)."
His sudden demise comes months after the Kapoor family and the film fraternity lost Rishi Kapoor. He passed away in April last year after battling cancer for a long time. About Rajiv's demise, Randhir said, "I have lost my youngest brother, Rajiv. He is no more. The doctors tried their best but could not save him...I am at the hospital, waiting for his body."
After making his Bollywood debut with the 1983 movie Ek Jaan Hain Hum, Rajiv worked in his father Raj Kapoor's last directorial venture Ram Teri Ganga Maili, that released in 1985. The movie, which also featured Mandakini, remains Rajiv's most notable work. Apart from the aforementioned, he also featured in films like Mera Saathi and Hum To Chale Pardes, among others.
The actor turned a producer with the 1991 movie Henna. He also bankrolled his only directorial Prem Granth (1996), and Aa Ab Laut Chalen, which was directed by Rishi and starred Akshaye Khanna with Aishwarya Rai. Reportedly, Rajiv was all set to make a comeback to movies after nearly three decades with Ashutosh Gowariker's Toolsidas Junior. The film was announced in December last year.
Many stars from the film industry have mourned Rajiv's death. Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar wrote on Twitter, "I just got to know that Raj Kapoor's youngest son and talented actor Rajiv Kapoor passed away. I am very sad. May his soul rest in peace (sic)." Rajiv is survived by his brother Randhir Kapoor and sister Rima Jain.
