Fricker funeral Thursday in Dublin, 1st Irish woman Oscar winner
Entertainment
Brenda Fricker, the first Irish woman to win an Oscar, will have her funeral this Thursday at St. Catherine's Church in Dublin. She passed away last month at 81.
The service starts at 11am and will be followed by a private burial.
Fricker made history with her Best Supporting Actress win for My Left Foot in 1990.
Fricker on 'Tolka Row' and 'Casualty'
Starting out on Ireland's first soap opera Tolka Row in the 1960s, Fricker later became a familiar face as nurse Megan Roach on BBC's Casualty and even popped up for guest roles until 2010.
Many remember her as the "Pigeon Lady" from Home Alone 2, but her Oscar-winning role as Christy Brown's mother is what truly made her an icon, showing just how far talent (and a bit of heart) can take you.
