'Felt like I didn't belong': Gulshan Devaiah recalls Mannat visit
What's the story
Actor Gulshan Devaiah recently opened up about his first experience at Shah Rukh Khan's iconic residence, Mannat. Speaking on the Bollywood Bubble podcast, he clarified a rumor that claimed he had gatecrashed a party there. "I didn't barge in; I was invited," he said. "Agar Shah Rukh Khan ke ghar mai ghusa hota toh abhi jail mai hota (If I had barged into Shah Rukh's house, I would have been in jail)."
Star-studded invitation
Devaiah recalls his 1st visit to Mannat
Devaiah recalled his first visit to Mannat, which was during the 2012 Filmfare Awards nominations announcement. He was there with his wife, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, and actor Kalki Koechlin when Khan invited them to an afterparty at his residence. "The entrance of Mannat isn't where people think it is. It's actually a separate road that takes you there," he explained. The party was also attended by Karan Johar and Farhan Akhtar, among others.
Feeling out of place
Devaiah felt like an outsider at the party
Devaiah said, "I felt like I didn't belong there." "I told myself that I should feel like I belong here because there's no point in whatever I am doing if I don't feel that way." However, he praised the hosts and said, "Shah Rukh spoke to me very nicely, and even Gauri Khan was very sweet." "But for those three hours, I just wanted to leave. I don't feel that way anymore, but back then, I did."
Actor's encounter
A memorable moment with Joel Edgerton
Despite his discomfort, Devaiah had a memorable interaction with actor Joel Edgerton, who was also present at the party. He described Edgerton as "really friendly" and shared how he kept looking at him in confusion. "I think I felt comfortable with him because he was also an outsider in that party," Devaiah said. Devaiah is currently seen in Kantara: Chapter 1.
