'Misunderstanding': Zaid Khan defends Aryan after obscene gesture controversy
What's the story
Kannada actor Zaid Khan has defended Aryan Khan, the son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, amid a recent controversy over an alleged obscene hand gesture. The incident took place during a public event at a Bengaluru pub on November 28. A complaint was filed against Aryan for allegedly flashing his middle finger at the crowd, which sparked online outrage and legal action.
Defense
'Gesture was meant for manager, not crowd'
Speaking to TV9Kannada in Bellary, Zaid claimed that the incident has been "misunderstood." He alleged that Aryan's hand gesture was directed at his manager-friend and not at the crowd. Zaid explained that there were more people than expected at the club, and Aryan was worried about handling such a large crowd. His manager went downstairs to disperse it but didn't return for a while, prompting both of them to check on him from the balcony.
Explanation
'The gesture was taken out of context'
"It was then that he gestured to his friend-cum-manager. He did not show any gesture to the people. It has been taken out of context," Zaid said. He added, "Aryan had messaged me saying he was coming to Bengaluru, so we attended the opening ceremony together." "The gesture was meant for his manager, not for Kannadigas."
Legal proceedings
Complaint details and police response
Advocate Owaiz Hussain S, who filed the complaint, sought an FIR against Aryan for allegedly making the obscene gesture in public. The complaint alleged that several women were present when the gesture was made, claiming it "insulted their modesty." Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Division) Hakay Akshay Machhindra confirmed that a suo motu enquiry has been initiated based on social media posts, and CCTV footage from the pub is being verified.
