Revealed: The real reason Netflix canceled all its Marvel shows
    Credits

Netflix made the inevitable and long dreaded move on Monday, February 18, of canceling their remaining Marvel shows. Jessica Jones and The Punisher, which were the last two series standing, got the axe following the cancellation of The Defenders, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. However, what prompted Netflix to cancel all their Marvel content, despite fan popularity? Find out the reason, here.

It all boils down to money Netflix had to pay

Netflix and Marvel's decision to end their five-year relationship boiled down primarily to money, although creative differences also played a part. The Hollywood Reporter analyzed the situation aptly, stating, "Put simply: Netflix did not have an ownership stake in any of its Marvel TV series. Each of the six Marvel shows was owned by Disney. Netflix paid ABC Studios a (steep) licensing fee".

Fans must get some sort of closure from this confirmation

While the news that the Netflix-Marvel deal ended due to money, is hardly surprising, grieving fans would get some kind of closure from this confirmation. Netflix usually keeps its internal affairs behind iron curtains, so getting a peek into the real reason is refreshing.

A new era is dawning in the entertainment industry

2020 will see a new era in the entertainment industry as far as streaming platforms are concerned. Studios are finding ways to own and distribute their content directly to consumers, thus avoiding the expensive licensing fees that broadcast TV and third-party streaming services like Hulu and Netflix demand. In this light, Disney+, a Warner Bros. streaming service is among major players entering the market.

Will canceled Marvel shows find a place in Disney's universe?

Since the Marvel-Netflix partnership is no longer feasible in the face of changing entertainment industry, it remains to be seen how the House of Mouse makes a place for this canceled content. They could air on Disney+ or FX which Disney owns following the Disney-Fox merger. These shows could also be completely recast and rebooted before heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
