Hrithik Roshan jokes about 'War 2' flopping at the box office
At a recent event, Hrithik Roshan poked fun at himself after War 2's disappointing box office run.
When called a "superstar," he smiled and said, "That's very kind of you. My film just bombed at the box office. So it feels very good to get all the love, thank you!"
The comment was a nod to War 2's struggles despite being one of Yash Raj Films's biggest releases this year.
Big budget, low returns
War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji and featuring Jr NTR's Hindi debut, released on August 14 as part of YRF's Spy Universe.
It made ₹236 crore in India and ₹365 crore worldwide—solid numbers for most films, but with its massive ₹400 crore budget and high break-even point, trade analysts still called it a flop.
Franchise letdown
Compared to earlier hits like Tiger 3 and the original War (2019), War 2 drew fewer viewers and became the least-watched entry in the series—even though expectations were sky-high.
Hrithik's next moves
Despite this setback, Hrithik isn't slowing down.
He'll direct and star in Krrish 4 (produced by Aditya Chopra and his father Rakesh Roshan) and has also signed up for an upcoming Hombale Films project—the studio behind Salaar and Mahavatar Narsimha.
