'Mission Cinderella' getting direct-to-digital April release? Here's what we know

Akshay Kumar is one of the most prolific actors in Bollywood at present. It hasn't been even a fortnight since his last release Bachchhan Paandey, but if reports are to be believed, his next Hindi flick will drop within a month! Kumar's next, Mission Cinderella, is touted to be an OTT outing and reportedly it will premiere in April itself. Here's more on this.
- Mission Cinderella is the official Hindi remake of the 2018 Tamil film Ratsasan.
- The news of Kumar leading the then-untitled project was reported in June last year, with makers planning to begin shooting by August 2021.
- Also, Rakul Preet Singh was reported to star as the female lead in this crime thriller, helmed by Ranjit M Tewari, who directed Kumar's Bell Bottom, too.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the Vashu and Jackky Bhagnani-backed project will arrive on Disney+ Hotstar next month. Citing an anonymous source, the portal said Mission Cinderella will be dropped on the platform on April 29 (Friday). "[It] isn't exactly a big-screen spectacle that can get the audience on board in big numbers," the source had earlier told Bollywood Hungama.
"The overall budget [for Mission Cinderella] including Akshay's acting fees was in the range of Rs. 175 crore," the source revealed. "While the producers did lose out on money in Bell Bottom, they didn't want a deja-vu and hence, after analyzing all business models, they finally decided on a direct-to-digital premiere." Notably, the Bhagnanis had produced Kumar's August 2021 release as well.
Earlier this month, Disney+ Hotstar has bought the streaming rights for a sum of Rs. 135 crore, said reports. Apart from that, the satellite and music rights have also been pre-sold. Reportedly, the entire package has brought in a profit of Rs. 20 crore for the producers. One of the most acclaimed movies of 2018, Ratsasan starred Vishnu Vishal and Amala Paul.
Ratsasan tells the story of a police officer investigating the murder of school girls. The twists and turns in this psychological thriller and its haunting score made up for a truly thrilling experience. Kumar is playing the cop in the movie. (Source: Bollywood Hungama)
