When Kamal Haasan spoke about romancing 'sibling' Sridevi in films
Kamal Haasan and Sridevi were more than just a hit pair on screen; they were childhood buddies! These two stars, who headlined numerous classic films, actually shared a sibling bond growing up. Kamal once shared that whenever they were asked to perform romantic scenes, they would end up in fits of laughter!
Haasan met Sridevi when she was only 15/16
At the 2018 India Today Conclave in Mumbai, Haasan opened up about his late co-star Sridevi and shared some heartwarming stories about them. He revealed that they considered each other as siblings and praised her as an icon. Remembering their first meeting when she was just 15 or 16, he said, "We were cast together in the same movie. We were cast as a pair, but we grew up as a brother and a sister...we were siblings."
Romantic scenes were a laughing matter for the duo
Haasan, the star of Vishwaroopam, shared that their off-screen sibling-like bond made doing romantic scenes together a laugh riot. He said, "We were made to do these romantic things, which we laughed at. It was like we came from the same house." The actor-turned-politician compared losing Sridevi to losing a family member.
Haasan's role in Sridevi's acting journey
Haasan also revealed that he was given the responsibility to help Sridevi polish her acting chops. He had attended a few acting classes and was chosen to guide her. The Tamil superstar noted how Sridevi would creatively interpret his teachings, always addressing him respectfully as 'sir.' They starred in nearly 27 films in four languages together, including classic hits like Sadma, Kuttavum Sikshayum, and Meendum Kokila.
