Mahesh Babu to play Lord Ram in SS Rajamouli's 'Varanasi'
Mahesh Babu is stepping into the role of Lord Ram for SS Rajamouli's much-awaited film Varanasi, releasing worldwide on April 7, 2027.
The movie also stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
Babu on preparing for the role
Babu described the role as challenging, sharing that the role required a year of preparation and that he underwent three months of intensive Kalari (Kalaripayattu) training and additional months of physical preparation.
He said, "I'm playing Lord Rama's character, it required posture," and spent months working on his body language.

In Varanasi, Babu plays both Rudhra and Lord Ram. The story travels from ancient Treta Yuga to today across places like Antarctica, Africa (Kenya), and India.
With a budget over ₹1,000 crore, the film will release in multiple languages in both standard theaters and IMAX.
