Meghalaya offers ₹1cr subsidy to filmmakers shooting there
Entertainment
Meghalaya introduced a fresh policy a few months ago to draw filmmakers, offering up to ₹1 crore if you shoot most of your movie (75% or more) in the state.
There's an extra ₹50 lakh on the table for productions that hire local artists and musicians.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma says the response has been great so far, with the first 8-10 films eligible to receive the scheme's benefits.
Investment in concert industry has paid off
The state isn't stopping at films—last year, Meghalaya put ₹23.5 crore into its concert industry and saw a massive return of ₹133.42 crore in revenue.
Plus, through the Meghalaya Grassroot Music Program, about 7,500 local artists got support, with nearly ₹40 crore spent on nurturing homegrown talent.
