Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, is returning to acting
What's the story
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, was recently spotted on the set of Close Personal Friends in Pasadena, California. The film is directed by Jason Orley and features Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, and Henry Golding. A source told PEOPLE that Markle has a "small part" in the movie where she plays herself. This marks her first acting role since leaving Suits eight years ago after announcing her engagement to Prince Harry.
Role details
Markle has been offered several projects
A source told The Sun, "This is a massive moment for Meghan and signifies a return to doing what she truly loves." "She has been swamped with offers but this one felt right." "It is Meghan's way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set," the source added. The film follows a couple who befriends a famous pair during their trip to Santa Barbara.
Family support
Prince Harry supportive of Markle's return to acting
The source also revealed that Prince Harry is supportive of Markle's return to acting. "Prince Harry is, of course, really supportive and quite simply wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy," the source said. The couple moved to Montecito in Santa Barbara after stepping back from their royal roles in 2020 and they currently reside there with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Career shift
Markle previously stepped back from acting in 2017
Markle first met Prince Harry in 2016 while filming Suits. She later stepped back from acting after their engagement. In a 2017 interview, she spoke about her decision to leave acting for a new chapter with Harry in the UK. "I don't see it as giving anything up, I just see it as a change," she had said then. Apart from Close Personal Friends, Markle has also written a children's book and hosted the lifestyle-based series With Love, Meghan.
