MPA tells Meta to stop using 'PG-13' in teen filters
The Motion Picture Association (MPA) just told Meta to stop calling Instagram's teen content filters "PG-13."
The MPA says Meta's use of the PG-13 label is misleading and could undermine public trust in movie ratings, which families have relied on since 1968.
MPA's concern over potential public distrust
The MPA feels its rating system helps families decide what's okay to watch.
It points out that Meta's AI filters aren't the same as actual movie ratings.
The group warned, "Any dissatisfaction with Meta's automated classification will inevitably cause the public to question the integrity of the MPA's rating system."
The MPA's membership includes major studios such as Disney, Netflix, and Warner Bros.
Meta's stance on PG-13 label usage
Meta replied that it never said Instagram was officially rated PG-13 by the MPA—just that its rules are inspired by those standards.
Meta insists it isn't misleading anyone and believes using the label is fair use.
