The much-anticipated action drama, Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has officially added popular Telugu star Akkineni Nagarjuna to its star-studded cast. Earlier, there were rumors that the actor had declined the offer. However, a recent poster has confirmed his involvement in the film. The movie, which is currently being shot, features superstar Rajinikanth in the lead role and is set to release in multiple languages.

Nagarjuna's character in 'Coolie' revealed

Nagarjuna is set to play the character Simon in Coolie, as revealed by the film's production house on his 65th birthday on Thursday (August 29). They shared a poster of the actor on social media with the caption, "Introducing @iamnagarjuna as Simon, from the world of #Coolie Wishing the versatile performer King # Nagarjuna a Happy Birthday! (sic)." Director Kanagaraj also expressed his excitement about Nagarjuna joining the cast.

'Coolie' to feature an ensemble cast

Apart from Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna, Coolie boasts a star-studded cast including Shruti Haasan, Soubin Sahir, Sathyaraj, Kishor Kumar G., and Upendra, among others. The film is being bankrolled by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner and it is scheduled for a grand theatrical release in 2025. As of now, no official release date has been announced. The film will be available in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada languages.

Nagarjuna was last seen in the period action film, titled Naa Saami Ranga—a Telugu adaptation of the Malayalam blockbuster hit Porinju Mariam Jose. Presently, the actor is busy filming for the highly-anticipated Kubera, directed by Sekhar Kammula. The film also stars Dhanush and Rashmika Mandanna.
