Following Ben Affleck's DCEU exit, Nick Jonas wants Batman role
Ben Affleck is hanging up the proverbial cape of Gotham's crusader as he exits his role as Batman from the DCEU movies. The 46-year-old actor took to Twitter to express his excitement at seeing a younger Batman in the upcoming film. With Affleck stepping out, the role for Batman is wide open and Nick Jonas has expressed interest to play the role. Read on.
For those unaware, a standalone movie about Gotham's finest superhero is going to hit the theatres in the summer of 2021. Affleck was initially supposed to direct and act in it. Now it appears he has relinquished both roles in the film. Titled The Batman, this film will be directed by Matt Reeves and is supposed to have a younger version of Bruce Wayne.
With Affleck stepping down, the 26-year-old singer who recently married Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra, has pitched in for possibly his biggest acting gig yet. The Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle actor was replying to an Instagram post by Hypebeast about who the next Batman should be. The Jealous singer pitched in about the next Dark Knight role saying, "First name Nick. Last name Jonas".
This is not the first time Jonas has expressed an interest in being part of the Bat family. In 2017, when there were talks about a Nightwing standalone movie, he had expressed an interest in playing Batman's protege, Dick Grayson. However, the film that was supposed to be directed by Chris McKay never materialized, so this might be Jonas' chance to realize his dreams.
Fans have expressed dissatisfaction at the possibility of Jonas playing Batman. However, as a younger version, he could fit the image. Notably, fans are often fixated on their idea of Batman from comics and aren't open to new actors being cast. Thus they had opposed Affleck's casting as well but were pleasantly surprised by the portrayal. We believe Jonas too could surprise Batman fans.
