#GullyBoy collection: Expected to earn Rs. 15cr on first day
Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead, is clearly the most anticipated movie of 2019. The movie, which hit the theatres today, has created the right amount of noise among cine-goers. And given the palpable excitement among the audience, Gully Boy is expected to witness a grand opening at the box office today. Here's more on this.
Gully Boy is a musical journey that intends to introduce India's hip-hop culture to the world. The movie is inspired by the lives of renowned street rappers Vivian Fernandes aka Divine and Naved Shaikh aka Naezy. Divine and Naezy, who rose to fame with their song Mere Gully Mein are hoping that Gully Boy brings the much-needed attention hip-hop culture in India requires.
From the trailer to its music, everything about Gully Boy has been widely praised by the audience. Besides, Ranveer-Alia's steamy chemistry has also enticed the youth. Furthermore, Ranveer has really been aggressive in promoting the movie. Given the buzz Gully Boy has created, it's reported that the movie will open to an impressive collection of around Rs. 15 crore on the first day.
Recently, Gully Boy had its world premiere at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival and was hailed by the critics. After its world premiere, it also won the hearts of Twitterati. In fact, film trade analyst Girish Johar told Indian Express, "I don't think anyone else would have created this style of hype with the character which he is playing in the film."
Gully Boy isn't a quintessential romantic movie. Yet, the movie has its touch of love as Ranveer will be romancing Alia for the first time on the big screen. Their pairing will be a fresh breath of air for the audience. Besides, like Ranveer, Alia is also a powerhouse performer and their chemistry is expected to win hearts.
After the mammoth success of Uri: The Surgical Strike, BO witnessed a decline in collections, due to lackluster performance of the recent releases. Kangana Ranaut's Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, another big release, has impressed critics and audience alike, although business-wise, it's still lagging behind. However, Gully Boy will have a free run at the box office, with no major releases until February 22.
