Star couple Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas to announce Oscar nominations
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed that the entertainment industry's power couple — Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas — will be announcing the nominations for this year's Oscars on March 15 at 5:19 am (pacific time). The 93rd annual Academy Awards nomination event will be available for streaming worldwide on the Academy's official websites (Oscar.com, Oscars.org) and digital platforms.
Nick and Priyanka were super thrilled to reveal that they have been chosen for the task. India-born Priyanka was quick to share the exciting news on Instagram. "We are so excited to be announcing the #OscarNoms on Monday, March 15th at 5:19 am PDT! (sic)" she wrote. She even jokingly asking the Academy whether she could host the event solo.
The anticipated categories whose nominations will be announced next week include Actor in a Leading Role, Actress in a Leading Role, Animated Feature Film, Cinematography, Directing, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, Film Editing, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Song), Best Picture, Production Design, and Visual Effects, reports Deadline. The order of presentation is not known yet.
Many details about the Oscars, which are scheduled to take place on April 25, are still fluid. The Academy is considering Union Station in Los Angeles as the venue for this year's Oscars, another report in Deadline claimed. Beyond this tiny piece of information, nothing else is known. The Academy is still on the lookout for a host.
In recent years, Oscars has had eight or nine movies in the nomination pile up for the Best Picture award. Here are some of the movies that could be seen in contention this year: Minari, Nomadland, Mank, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Promising Young Woman. Movies like Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and The Mauritanian could also be accommodated in the nominations' lists.
