Public demand: It was brought back last March on Doordarshan

In fact, the epic show had made a return in March last year when netizens demanded that popular 1980-90 shows be played during the lockdown period. Sagar's Ramayan, considered to be the best television adaptation of the Hindu epic, worked its magic and became the world's most-watched show in the entertainment category when it recorded 7.7 crore viewers on a single day in April.

Even in times of Netflix, this mythological show ruled screens

Apart from this world record, the mega-series had become the highest-watched serial in the Hindi general entertainment space since 2015 after it recorded a massive 17 crore viewers in the first weekend of its rerun. The binge-friendly generation had eaten up the series, making it a trending topic on the internet. Notably, Arun Govil had played Lord Ram and Deepika Chikhlia was Sita.

Lockdown was spent with 'Mahabharat,' 'Circus,' 'Shaktimaan,' 'Byomkesh Bakshi'

Dara Singh was Hanuman and Raavan was played by Arvind Trivedi. With a total of 78 episodes, Ramayan had originally aired from 1987 to 1988. Apart from this, another mythological drama, BR Chopra's Mahabharat had made a comeback too. Fans were also kept content with the reruns of Rajit Kapur-starrer Byomkesh Bakshi, Mukesh Khanna's Shaktimaan, and Circus starring Shah Rukh Khan, among others.
