What's the story

Rapper Nicki Minaj faced a shocking loss recently, as her father died when a car hit him in Long Island, near New York City. Robert Maraj was aged 64, said Nassau County Police Department. This is a hit-and-run case and the driver hasn't yet been identified as they fled the scene with the car. The accident happened in Mineola at 6:15PM (ET) on Friday.

Details

The car simply sped off after hitting Maraj

Maraj was walking on the road when the car struck him and reportedly kept running. The car fled the scene too soon "without a meaningful description from witnesses," said the cops. He was then taken to a hospital close by where he was pronounced dead. The Nassau County Police Department is investigating the case, and has urged witnesses to approach with more concrete evidence.

Information

It took place on Roslyn Road-Raff Avenue intersection

Police know that the car was headed toward the north and the accident took place at the intersection of Roslyn Road and Raff Avenue. Minaj is still to go public on the shocking news. However, fans on Twitter shared their heartfelt condolences, with many asking trolls not to make fun of this serious an issue. TMZ was the first to report this accident.

Twitter Post

'My wishes and condolences are with Nicki and her family'

Family

Suzie, Maraj's sister, shared the news first

One user shared a post by Maraj's sister Suzie, who shared the news first, on her Instagram account. The Pink Friday crooner apparently doesn't share a good rapport with her father, as was shared by her in a 2018 documentary. Titled Queen, the public discourse had her talking about Maraj, which had detailed how her "mother would let my father be violent with her."

Relationship

Minaj has always been negative about her father

"I remember when my mother would let my father be violent with her and she always brings up this story about when I was a little girl and I would stand in front of my mother," the 38-year-old Trinidadian-American rapper had said. Minaj also had told Rolling Stone in 2010 how Maraj allegedly set her home ablaze with her mother inside.
