Sameer Wankhede's defamation suit against 'BOLLYWOOD' to be heard now
IRS officer Sameer Wankhede can now refile his defamation suit against Red Chillies Entertainment and Netflix in Mumbai, after the Delhi High Court said it wasn't the right place for the case.
The dispute is over Ba***ds of Bollywood, a Netflix series directed by Aryan Khan (release date not stated in the source), which Wankhede says unfairly mirrored his role in Aryan's 2021 cruise drugs case.
What happened in the case so far?
Wankhede wanted ₹2 crore in damages (which he planned to donate) and tried to block the series' release, calling his portrayal "malicious" and a violation of national honor laws.
The filmmakers argued it was just satire on Bollywood.
Since Wankhede resides in Mumbai and Red Chillies's registered office is in Mumbai, the Delhi court returned the case for lack of jurisdiction.
Now, with no objections from the other side, Wankhede's suit will be heard in a Mumbai court on February 12.
