Rajinikanth-Sathyaraj reunite for 'Coolie' after nearly 4 decades, say reports
After a gap of almost 40 years, veteran actors Rajinikanth and Sathyaraj are set to share the screen in the upcoming film Coolie. The movie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, was previously titled Thalaivar 171. Sathyaraj, who will reportedly essay a pivotal role in this project, is known for his numerous collaborations with Rajinikanth during the 1980s. Their last joint venture was the 1987 drama film Manathil Urudhi Vendum, helmed by K. Balachander.
Addressing rumors of off-screen tensions between the stars
Despite their on-screen rivalry, with Sathyaraj often playing the antagonist against Rajinikanth, rumors of off-screen tensions have been dispelled. These speculations arose following a fiery speech by Sathyaraj during a hunger strike on the Cauvery issue several years ago. However, in recent interviews, Sathyaraj has repeatedly expressed his admiration for Rajinikanth as a superstar actor. Furthermore, Sathyaraj's son, Sibiraj, confirmed during recent promotions for his film Maayon that there is no animosity between his father and Rajinikanth.
'Coolie' promises unique roles and star-studded cast
The forthcoming film Coolie is anticipated to be massy actioner. It's speculated that Shruti Haasan will portray Rajinikanth's daughter in the movie. Other notable actors such as Vijay Sethupathi and Mohan are also expected to make appearances. Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is wrapping up his final schedule for another action-thriller titled Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel. He was last seen in a cameo in Lal Salaam.
More about the team behind 'Coolie'
Coolie will be produced by Sun Pictures, who were also behind Rajinikanth's successful titles like Jailer, 2.0, and Petta. The film's music will be composed by celebrated composer Anirudh Ravichander, with action sequences choreographed by the stunt duo Anbu-Arivu. Cinematography will be handled by Girish Gangadharan. It is not a part of Kanagaraj's famous Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), which includes movies like Vikram and Kaithi.
