Shahana Goswami's 'Santosh' delayed due to CBFC cuts demand
Sandhya Suri's film Santosh, starring Shahana Goswami, was supposed to drop on Lionsgate Play this Friday but got delayed after a clash with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The story follows a widowed police constable stepping into her late husband's shoes while investigating a young girl's murder.
Why was 'Santosh' held back?
The CBFC wanted some scenes cut, but Suri refused, stating that the cuts "compromised the integrity of the film too profoundly."
Even though streaming content isn't legally required to get certified, platforms are still holding back releases like this one.
Film's international recognition, too
Suri worries that delays could push people toward illegal streams and hopes viewers in India can watch Santosh as she intended—uncut and official.
The film premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and discusses its release schedule and censorship issues.
