'Sholay' returns to theaters with its original, never-seen ending

Entertainment

Sholay is coming back to theaters for its 50th anniversary, but this time with a twist—fans will finally get to see the film's original ending that was cut back in 1975.
The restored version, called Sholay: The Final Cut, hits select Cinepolis screens on December 12, 2025, in crisp 4K.
Director Ramesh Sippy's first vision for the climax is making its big-screen debut after being changed by censors during the Emergency.

Why this matters (and what's new)

When Sholay first released, its finale was toned down because it was considered too violent—Gabbar Singh got arrested instead of meeting his end.
Now, Salim-Javed's original script is back: Thakur Baldev Singh finally gets his revenge in a scene fans have only heard about.
For anyone who loves Bollywood or movie history (or just epic stories), this re-release is a rare chance to experience one of India's biggest films as it was meant to be seen.
