What's the story

Actor Shreyas Talpade has announced his next Hindi project. The Marathi star will be seen essaying the role of cricketer Pravin Tambe in his biopic called Kaun Pravin Tambe? Announcing the same, Talpade released a poster on social media on Monday, revealing it would be a Disney+ Hotstar release. His first-look images are also out. The film's trailer will be dropped on March 9.

What did the announcement say?

"Kaun hai Pravin Tambe? Cricket ka most experienced debutante, and the most inspiring cricket story never told," read Talpade's post. In the poster, we can see popular Indian male cricketers such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni getting featured with their debut age written beside their names. Next to them, we see Talpade's face as Tambe, who debuted at 41.

Directed by Jayprad Desai, Kaun Pravin Tambe? will get premiered on Hotstar on April 1. Viewers will be able to enjoy the sports drama based on an "inspiring" true story in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. It will also feature Ashish Vidyarthi, Parambrata Chatterjee, and Anjali Patil in key roles. The film is being backed by Fox Star Studios, Friday Filmworks, and Bootroom Sports Production.

Who is Pravin Tambe?

To tell you about Tambe, he had been aspiring to debut as a Ranji Trophy player since his early 20s. He continued working for this dream for the next two decades while working small jobs here and there. Finally, in 2012, Dravid (then Rajasthan Royals' captain) picked him up in IPL. The next year, a 42-year-old Tambe made it to Mumbai's Ranji squad.

Where the 40s mark the dusk of players' careers, Tambe's story proved age is just a number. He took retirement in 2017, after playing for IPL teams like Gujarat Lions and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Notably, Talpade has played a cricketer before. "After 17 years of playing the lead in Iqbal, I feel very fortunate that I am portraying Pravin on screen," he had said earlier.
