Smriti Irani takes a dig at Bollywood filmmakers

    What's the story

More often than not, the outrage towards a film is created by the makers themselves when they haven't made a good enough film, said Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani.

Irani stated that those in Bollywood resort to such methods to gain publicity.

Her comments came in reply to a question by Karan Johar at the inaugural ceremony of FICCI Frames 2018.

    Quote

Here is Irani's take on the matter

"Now that you recognise me as an insider, tell me honestly that how many of us manufacture the outrage because we don't have a film which is that good but we know we will get the eyeballs," the minister asked Karan.

    Irani's suggestion to the filmmakers

While talking about the movie industry, Irani advised that Bollywood should set its own benchmarks instead of following that of others.

"I think we always position ourselves in comparison to others. Instead, we should really look at our strengths and try to stand out," she said.

Also present at the event were producer Siddharth Roy Kapur and Huma Qureshi.
