Spotify sued for letting bots boost Drake's numbers
Spotify is facing a class-action lawsuit from rapper RBX, who says the platform let billions of fraudulent streams inflate Drake's numbers between January 2022 and September 2025.
The suit claims bots repeatedly played Drake's tracks, boosting his stats and cutting into royalties for real artists.
For the record, Drake isn't accused of any wrongdoing.
RBX filed the suit on behalf of artists
RBX—a longtime rapper and Dr. Dre collaborator—filed the suit on behalf of artists who feel cheated by streaming fraud.
He argues that Spotify's failure to sufficiently crack down on streaming fraud allows bots to create fake accounts, driving up stream counts and taking money away from genuine musicians.
Industry experts estimate as much as 10% of all streams
Spotify denies any negligence, pointing to its efforts to detect and remove fake streams.
Still, industry experts estimate as much as 10% of all streams could be artificial—a big deal in a $28-billion market.
The lawsuit wants damages paid out and tougher anti-fraud measures put in place.
