'Stranger Things' Season 4 teaser hints at what's to come

Netflix has renewed its popular fantasy science-fiction web series Stranger Things for a fourth season. The announcement for the fourth season came with a brand new teaser which reveals that "we're not in Hawkins anymore." That combined with the ending of Season 3, which came out in July suggest that Season 4 will be set in a different place. Here are more details.

Firstly, let's refresh your memory on Season 3

First, here's a quick recap of Season 3: Soviet scientists open a new gate to the Upside Down while the Mind Flayer takes control of several Hawkins residents. Eleven and team manage to stop them, however, Jim Hopper and Billy Hargrove die in the process. Eleven loses her powers and leaves Hawkins with Joyce Byers and her sons, Jonathan and Will. A post-credits scene also showed a captive Demogorgon in Kamchatka, Russia.

Here's what happens in the Season 4 teaser

Now, the 45-second teaser shows a Season 4 logo being smothered by the living vines of Upside Down. A 'Welcome to Hawkins' logo in the backdrop meets the same fate, as does a bloodied clock pinned to a nearby tree. The clock holds unknown significance as Stranger Things tweeted two emojis recently- a clock and an upside-down smiley- and changed its display picture to the ravaged clocked.

Clock implies time travel in Season 4, fans believe

Fans speculate that the clock signifies time travel in Season 4. However, it would be better if it hinted at a release date, which hasn't been revealed. The clip ends with the text "we're not in Hawkins anymore" implying that Season 4 travels to Russia.

Netflix signs multi-year TV/film deal with 'Stranger Things' showmakers

Further, Netflix has another huge announcement in store for fans. It has signed a multi-year deal with Stranger Things' creators, The Duffer Brothers, to expand the universe into "other film and series projects." Netflix's chief content officer Ted Sarandos said, "We can't wait to see what the Duffer Brothers have in store when they step outside the world of The Upside Down."

Absolutely thrilled to continue relationship with Netflix: Duffer Brothers

The Duffer Brothers said, "We're absolutely thrilled to continue our relationship with Netflix. Ted Sarandos, Cindy Holland, Brian Wright, and Matt Thunell took a huge chance on us and our show, and forever changed our lives." They added, "The entire team at Netflix has been nothing short of sensational, providing us with the kind of support, guidance, and creative freedom we always dreamed about."
