What's the story

A day after Subhash Ghai was accused of raping a woman, the renowned filmmaker has rubbished the allegations. He said that he is deeply pained to be embroiled in the #MeToo movement on false allegations. An anonymous woman had alleged that Ghai spiked her drink and raped her several years ago. Her ordeal was re-shared by Twitter user Mahima Kukreja. Here are the details.

Ghai's statement

'I respect women's dignity', says Ghai

Ghai, who was apparently "shocked" on being dragged in the #MeToo campaign, said it has become a trend these days to defame with baseless allegations. He "strictly and firmly" denied all the allegations leveled against him. He also took it to micro-blogging site Twitter to defend himself and said that he respects women and their dignity "in spite of the cosmetic world we live".

Defamation case

Meanwhile, he may also file a defamation case

Meanwhile, Ghai is also planning to seek justice in the court of law and might file a defamation suit against the alleged victim if she fails to prove her allegations. "If she claims this way, she should go to the court of law and prove it. Justice will be done or I will go for defamation certainly," he added.

Backstory: An anonymous woman accused Ghai of raping her

Ghai's name was dragged into #MeToo after an anonymous (but media lit) woman shared her horrifying story. The victim also alleged that Ghai tried kissing her forcibly and even touched her inappropriately before the unfortunate incident.
