What's the story

Actor Sumeet Vyas, set to greet fans in the JioHotstar series Ziddi Ishq on Friday, has revealed that he has been receiving fewer acting offers since his directorial debut with Raat Jawan Hai (2024). He mentioned that people now assume he's only interested in directing. "Directing that show was fulfilling. But now, people think I don't want to act," he told mid-day.

Acting aspirations

'Direction is something I got and did, but...'

Vyas clarified, "I want to act. Direction is something I got and did, but I am still an actor." "Now, I get scripts to direct. I have come across some nice scripts, but unless something is coming from a personal space, I don't want to direct for the heck of it." He will star in Ziddi Ishq, directed by Raj Chakraborty, along with Aaditi Pohankar, Parambrata Chatterjee, Barkha Bisht, and Riya Sen.

Career move

Vyas's role in 'Ziddi Ishq' and future plans

In Ziddi Ishq, Vyas plays a manipulative business tycoon, a departure from his usual roles. He said, "First of all, it's hard to do something that people like you for." "A lot of things need to go right for you to be identified with a certain kind of character. So I take it positively that [I have an image]. Now the idea is to introduce the audience to another aspect of my craft."

Sequel speculation

Vyas's hopes for a 2nd season of 'Raat Jawan Hai'

Vyas also expressed his hopes for a second season of Raat Jawan Hai, which was released last year. The show, which explored the lives of three friends grappling with their identities while dealing with parenthood, received positive reviews. "I hope it happens. We have bounced a couple of ideas. We liked what we did. We want to get it right [the second time too]," he said about the potential sequel.
