    'Tumbbad' re-release earns over double of original opening weekend

    What's the story

    The re-release of the 2018 fantasy drama Tumbbad has been met with a warm response at the box office, raking in over ₹7 crore in just three days.

    This figure surpasses the film's original opening weekend collection of ₹3.25 crore by more than double.

    The film, starring Sohum Shah, was re-released in theaters on September 13, 2024.

    'Tumbbad' re-release's impressive box office performance

    On its first day, Tumbbad earned ₹1.65 crore, followed by ₹2.65 crore on Saturday. The film continued its strong run on Sunday, collecting approximately ₹3 crore. This brings the total box office collection to over ₹7 crore in three days.

    In comparison, the film's original release in 2018 had only managed to earn ₹3.25 crore in its opening weekend and a total of ₹13.48 crore against a production budget of ₹15 crore.

    'Tumbbad 2' to go on floors in 2025

    Shah, who is both the lead actor and producer of Tumbbad, recently announced a sequel to the film. In an Instagram post, he wrote, "#TUMBBAD2. Pralay Aayega."

    In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Shah revealed that the shooting for Tumbbad 2 will commence in 2025. He explained that they did not want to rush into making a sequel and took six years to finalize a worthy story.
