Need 'justice' for Karur stampede 'conspiracy,' 'Jana Nayagan' delay: Vijay
What's the story
Tamil actor-turned-politician Vijay has alleged a conspiracy to delay the release of his final film, Jana Nayagan. While filing his nomination papers for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from Trichy on Thursday, he said, "As many said, the conspiracy around the Karur incident and the fact that my final film Jana Nayagan could not be released...What if that film became a powerful weapon in the elections?" "As a brother, son, as your Vijay, I need justice."
Political stance
DMK government is an 'evil force'
Vijay also took a dig at the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government, calling it an "evil force." He urged voters to throw them out of power in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election. The actor, who is contesting elections for the first time via his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), said he left a life of luxury to stand with the people. "I have come here for you, even though I have a luxurious life," he said.
Party priorities
TVK's priorities in the election
Vijay also outlined TVK's priorities, which will focus on education, ration distribution, healthcare, drinking water, basic amenities, and transportation. He asked voters to support his party by giving it a chance. He promised never to lie to them nor deceive them. Tamil Nadu will vote in a single phase on April 23 to elect representatives for its 234-member assembly. Vijay is contesting from Perambur and Trichy East.
Film release
'Jana Nayagan' faced certification issues
Vijay's final film, Jana Nayagan, was scheduled for a January 9 release but got delayed due to Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) certification issues. The producers had claimed they would suffer an over ₹100 crore loss if the delay continued. The film stars Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, and BobbyDeol and is reportedly an adaptation of Anil Ravipudi's Bhagavanth Kesari (2023).
