Wade challenges Swift over 'The Life of a Showgirl' title
Entertainment
Taylor Swift is in legal trouble over her new album, The Life of a Showgirl.
Las Vegas performer Maren Wade says the title is too close to her own brand, Confessions of a Showgirl, which she's been using for her column, book, podcast, and touring stage show.
Wade seeks merch block, compensation
Wade argues that Swift's massive fame could drown out her smaller brand, a move her lawyers call reverse confusion.
She wants to block Swift from selling any Showgirl-themed merch and is asking for financial compensation.
Interestingly, the US Patent and Trademark Office already rejected Swift's trademark request because it was too similar to Wade's.
Even if merch gets blocked, though, Swift's music release probably won't be affected.
