Why 'Jigra' is not getting celebrated despite Alia's Filmfare win

Entertainment

Alia Bhatt just picked up Best Actress at the 2025 Filmfare Awards for Jigra, but not everyone's celebrating.
The film, which released in October 2024, had a slow start at the box office—earning only ₹4.25 crore on day one, Bhatt's lowest opening in years—and has been surrounded by industry drama.

Controversy over Bhatt's win

Social media quickly lit up with doubts about whether Bhatt truly earned the award. Comments ranged from "it's all built on connections" to calling it "clownery."
Actress Divya Khossla Kumar even claimed ticket sales were inflated after she saw nearly empty theaters herself.

Issues that plagued 'Jigra'

Jigra faced its own share of behind-the-scenes issues: director Vasan Bala was reportedly upset when an unfinished script went to Bhatt without his okay, adding to nepotism chatter.
Producer Karan Johar pushed back against these claims and said the team worked together fairly.
The movie also dealt with plagiarism accusations and canceled press screenings—though many still praised Bhatt's performance.
