What's the story

Mark Ruffalo, who has played Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), recently opened up about the possibility of a solo film for his character. In an interview with GQ, he said there are "so many Hulk movies already," which begs the question: "Does anyone really want another one?" However, he also expressed interest in such a project if they could figure out its direction.

Film rights

'It's not really owned by Marvel'

Ruffalo further explained that the rights to a Hulk movie are not with Marvel but with Universal. He said, "I don't know if you know the story of that, but it's not really owned by Marvel. It's a Universal property." "I don't know if it'll (a solo feature) ever really come to be, honestly," he added.

Film history

Last Hulk film was released in 2008

The last standalone Hulk film, The Incredible Hulk, was released in 2008 and starred Edward Norton as Bruce Banner. Although Ruffalo took over the role from Norton, the film remains part of the MCU canon. This film was most recently referenced in Captain America: Brave New World although the actual Hulk didn't make an appearance in the 2025 release.

Career update

Ruffalo's recent projects

Ruffalo was recently seen in the first season of the streaming series Task, where he played an FBI agent. The show also stars Ozark alum Tom Pelphrey as Robbie, a father of two involved in crime. Reportedly, Ruffalo will reprise his role as Bruce Banner/Hulk in Tom Holland and Zendaya's Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The fourth Spider-Man movie will come out in 2026.
