
25 transgender persons hospitalized after allegedly consuming phenyl in Indore

Around 25 people from the transgender community in Indore were hospitalized after allegedly consuming phenyl together on Wednesday night. The group was rushed to the government-run Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital (MYH), where they are currently being treated. Dr. Basant Kumar Ningwal, Superintendent-in-Charge of MYH, said that none of the patients are in critical condition but said their claim of having consumed phenyl cannot be immediately verified.

Police received report of disturbance at local residence
The incident came to light when police received a report of a disturbance at a local residence. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone-4 Anand Kaladgi said that senior officers reached the spot immediately. DCP Kaladgi said, "They learned that some of the individuals had consumed an unknown substance, causing several people to fall ill." The reason behind this mass act is still unknown.

Investigation underway to determine exact substance consumed
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Dandotiya said the exact substance consumed and its motive will be determined only after a thorough investigation. He added, "Only after investigation will it become clear as to what substance the transgender community people had consumed, and why." Another police officer told PTI that the incident could be connected to a feud between two factions of the local transgender community.
