Air India flight grounded after emergency turbine deployed mid-air
An Air India Boeing 787 flying from Amritsar to Birmingham had its emergency Ram Air Turbine (RAT) suddenly deploy during landing yesterday—even though all systems looked normal.
This device is meant for serious power failures, so the surprise activation led to the plane being grounded and its return flight canceled.
Similar incident led to tragic crash in June 2025
Just a few months ago, a similar RAT deployment on another Air India 787 ended in a tragic crash in Ahmedabad in June 2025, killing 260 people, including all 241 onboard.
That earlier accident was linked to sudden fuel control problems.
With two incidents happening so close together, it's raising big concerns about the safety of these planes.
Pilots call for grounding of all Boeing 787s
India's pilot federation wants urgent checks on every Boeing 787 in the country.
They've flagged repeated electrical issues and have called for urgent checks, while some aviation safety experts have suggested it might be time to ground the whole fleet until experts figure out what's really going wrong.
For now, everyone's watching closely—and hoping for answers soon.
