Applying for NEET-2018? Here's all you need to know

The CBSE announced that National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), the all-India entrance exam for medical college admissions, will be conducted on 6 May'18. Online applications can be submitted until 11:50 pm on 9 March. Medical aspirants from all government-recognized secondary-school examination boards are eligible. However, private students, open-school students, and those who studied biology/biotechnology as the additional subject in 10+2 level aren't permitted. Here's more.

CBSE's official statement on NEET 2018

According to an official CBSE statement: "Candidates who passed 10+2 from open schools, or as private candidates, will not be eligible to appear for NEET. Those who took biology/biotechnology as an additional subject at the 10+2 level will not be permitted either."

Open school students cannot take NEET from 2018

The Medical Council of India, which comes under Union Health Ministry, decided that open-school and private students will not take NEET from 2018 because they cannot be considered on par with those who completed schooling in a regular mode. However, National Institute of Open Schooling, under Human Resource Development Ministry, requested MCI not to bar open-school candidates from taking the national medical entrance test.

    All about the NEET 2018

NEET-2018 will be conducted for admission to medical/dental colleges approved by MCI and Dental Council of India, except AIIMS and JIPMER-Puducherry. Students can take the exam in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarat, Kannada, Marathi, Oriya, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

Who all are eligible for NEET 2018?

Candidates from all states, except Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, and Meghalaya, must have Aadhaar to be able to apply for NEET this year. Also, students must have completed 17 years' age by 31 Dec'18 and shouldn't be over 25 years as on 6 May'18. They must have passed in English and in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology with a minimum of 50% together in Class-12.
