Amarnath Yatra 2025 commences: Essential information
The Amarnath Yatra, one of India's most famous pilgrimages to Lord Shiva's cave, is back from July 3 to August 9, 2025.
Over 3.3 lakh people have already signed up, but only 15,000 can visit each day—so things are organized and a bit exclusive this year.
Who can go, and what documents to carry?
If you're between 13 and 70 years old and healthy (no major heart or lung issues), you're eligible.
Registration is a must—do it online at jksasb.nic.in or at official centers.
You'll need a health certificate, permit for your chosen route (Pahalgam or Baltal), RFID card, ID proof (Aadhaar/passport for NRIs), six passport photos, and travel details matching your dates.
Trekking routes, helicopter rides, and more
There are two main trekking routes: the scenic but longer Pahalgam trail (36km over 3-5 days) and the quicker Baltal route (14km in just a day or two).
Not into trekking? Helicopter rides are available too!
Along the way you'll find tents, huts, food stalls—and medical posts every couple of kilometers.
Pro tip: prep physically beforehand and dress in layers—the cave sits high up at 12,700 feet with its iconic ice Shivling waiting at the end.
The whole event is run by the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board under Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha's watchful eye.
