Amit Shah assures FCRA bill will not target anyone retroactively
Home Minister Amit Shah has reassured political leaders and Christian organizations that the upcoming Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, won't be used to target anyone retroactively.
The bill may be taken up for discussion on August 12 and is all about making foreign funding more transparent and accountable.
After meeting with Mizoram's Chief Minister Lalduhoma and DMK Rajya Sabha MP P Wilson, who brought up concerns from churches and NGOs, Shah said the amendments were meant to strengthen transparency and accountability in the utilization of foreign contributions rather than target any particular community.
Authority to manage canceled FCRA assets
If this bill passes, a new authority will manage assets of groups whose FCRA registrations get canceled, making sure those assets still serve public good without losing their religious purpose.
Shah stressed that these changes aren't aimed at any specific community, they're just about financial transparency.
Minority groups want more discussion or a deeper review before anything gets finalized, so the bill may be taken up for discussion on August 12.
