Andhra Pradesh: 7 Maoist leaders killed in major police operation
India
Security forces in Andhra Pradesh have taken a big step against Maoist insurgency, killing seven Maoists, with top leader Devji believed to be among them, in the Maredumilli forests on Wednesday.
This action followed intelligence that key leaders were regrouping in the area.
What's happening in Maredumilli?
Just a day earlier, another encounter nearby led to the death of Madvi Hidma, another prominent Maoist figure, and five others.
Over the past year, these crackdowns have resulted in 270 deaths and over 1,200 surrenders.
Police also seized weapons like AK-47s and arrested 31 people linked to Maoist activities.
The government is ramping up efforts to end Maoist influence by March 2026.
