Andhra Pradesh bus fire: Driver detained, charges filed
A tragic bus fire in Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool district on Friday claimed 20 lives—19 passengers and a motorcyclist—after a private bus collided with a motorcycle near Chinnatekuru village.
The driver, Miriyala Lakshmaiah, escaped the scene but was detained later in the afternoon by police.
Driver charged, vehicle documents seized
Police have charged Lakshmaiah under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing death by negligence and risking human life.
Eyewitnesses described the blaze starting in the front section of the bus, forcing panicked passengers to break windows and emergency exits to get out.
Authorities have seized vehicle documents for investigation.
Meanwhile, the state government has ordered a high-level probe and announced ₹5 lakh compensation for each victim's family, plus ₹2 lakh for those injured.
