Andhra woman killed in electric scooter battery explosion

A 62-year-old woman, Venkata Lakshmamma, lost her life in Potladurthi village, Andhra Pradesh, after an electric scooter battery exploded while she was sleeping nearby.
The blast caused serious burns and set off a fire that damaged several household items.
Police have started an investigation and sent her body for post-mortem.

TL;DR

Rise in battery explosions

Sadly, this isn't an isolated case—Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have seen a rise in electric vehicle (EV) battery explosions lately.
In 2022 alone, eight such incidents led to at least 10 deaths across both states.
Some major cases include a hotel fire in Hyderabad and another blaze in Palakonda that destroyed dozens of bikes.
Investigations suggest overcharging is often to blame for these dangerous accidents.
