Delhi: 14-year-old boy allegedly beaten to death in school

Months after the Ryan murder case, a Class 9 student in Delhi's Karawal Nagar was found unconscious in his school toilet after allegedly being beaten by his schoolmates. He was declared brought dead at the hospital. Police said there are no visible injuries on his body, but a case has been lodged against unknown persons. The postmortem is scheduled today.

School claims Tushar died due to diarrhea

Fourteen-year-old Tushar Kumar, a student of Jeevan Jyoti Senior Secondary School, was found unconscious in a washroom by fellow students yesterday morning. The staff rushed him to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead. School authorities claim he was suffering from diarrhea, which allegedly caused his death. "There was no scuffle," said Thipti Shikha, a teacher. But his family claimed otherwise.

Tushar's family questions school authorities and police

Tushar's cousin Ravi alleged he was actually beaten up by schoolmates "under the watch of the teachers," and the school was hiding facts. Why did the school inform them of Tushar's condition more than an hour after he was found unconscious, Ravi asked. He also questioned police's claims, insisting he had seen injury marks on his neck and chest.

CCTV footage shows other children in the washroom with Tushar

MLA Kapil Mishra joined Tushar's family while they protested outside the school. "CCTV footage shows he was allegedly taken to the washroom by a group of other children," said Mishra, quoting police. However, DCP AK Singla said some students were seen entering the toilet after Tushar.

Culpable homicide case lodged against unknown persons

"We have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against unknown persons," Singla said, adding further action will depend on postmortem results. Last September, seven-year-old Pradyuman Thakur was found dead in a washroom in Gurgaon's Ryan International. A Class 12 student was eventually arrested for the crime. In October, a Class 7 student of another school died after a scuffle with a classmate.
