Army jawan arrested for rape at Ranchi railway station

A 42-year-old Army jawan was arrested for allegedly raping a 22-year-old woman at Tatisilwai Railway Station in Ranchi, Jharkhand, on December 18.
The accused, who was guarding a defense train and reportedly drunk, lured and forcibly took the woman into an empty coach.
He's from Prayagraj (UP) and serves with the 42 Medium Regiment in Patiala.

What happened next

The survivor's cries for help caught people's attention, leading bystanders to alert Railway police. The jawan tried to escape but was caught and injured during his arrest.
An FIR was filed based on the woman's statement; she also underwent a medical exam at RIMS hospital.
On December 19, a Ranchi court sent the accused to judicial custody. The case has been registered under relevant IPC sections.
