Bangladeshis illegally entering Bengal have tripled, thanks to sir

India

There's been a big jump in the number of Bangladeshis caught crossing into Bengal illegally—numbers have increased from single digits to around 300 daily since a new "special intensive revision" (SIR) began.
At the Hakimpur check post, where only a handful were stopped each day before, officials are now apprehending about 300 people daily.
This surge is tied to the SIR exercise and police drives by the Border Security Force (BSF) and state police.

What's happening at the border?

The BSF is now running biometric and background checks on everyone caught, working closely with Bangladeshi authorities before sending people back.
West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose even visited Hakimpur to review the situation—a move that highlights just how seriously the government is taking border security right now.
