Bank holidays during Diwali week: Check your city's schedule
Diwali is coming up (October 18-23, 2025), and if you've got banking to do, you'll want to check your city's holiday schedule.
Bank closures aren't the same everywhere—some cities take extra days off for local traditions on top of the Reserve Bank of India's list.
Regional closures on these days
On Dhanteras (Oct 18), only Guwahati banks are shut; most others like Mumbai and Delhi stay open. All banks are closed nationwide on Sunday, Oct 19.
For Naraka Chaturdashi (Oct 20), expect closures in Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and more—though Mumbai and Srinagar still operate.
Laxmi Puja (Oct 21) brings closures in places like Mumbai, Nagpur, Bhubaneswar and Jammu.
On Govardhan Puja (Oct 22), Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Jaipur and several others see bank holidays.
Bhai Dooj (Oct 23) affects Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Lucknow and a few more.
Plan ahead to avoid last-minute hassles
Missing a local bank holiday can mess with your payments or plans—nobody wants surprise delays during Diwali week!
Double-check your city's dates so you can sort out cash or transfers before things shut down unexpectedly.
